What Is Internal Medicine?

One of the main types of primary care physician, an internal medicine doctor (or internist) provides care in three main areas:

  • Outpatient Adult Medicine

    Whether you are blessed with excellent health or have multiple chronic conditions to manage, Dr. O‘Neal and his team stand ready to provide you with medical care and valuable guidance for maintaining wellness:

    • Regular physical exams and wellness visits
    • Comprehensive in-house labs, EKGs, and other diagnostic testing
    • Medication support and lifestyle guidance for chronic conditions such as hypertension, pulmonary disease, arthritis, etc.
    • Assistance in managing therapies from multiple providers and specialists

  • Preventive Care

    An ounce of prevention is worth a lot more than a pound of cure. And if prevention isn’t possible, early detection is your next best bet.  Dr. O’Neal’s patients enjoy exceptional preventive care:

    • Immunizations and vaccinations
    • Cancer screenings, such as colonoscopies and mammograms
    • Regular lab screenings for hundreds of potential conditions
    • Monitoring and intervention for emerging conditions such as elevated blood pressure, pre-diabetes, and more

  • Acute Care

    Even the best-prepared patient will occasionally suffer an illness or minor injury. Dr. O‘Neal offers his patients acute care visits, usually within 24 hours of the first phone call, to address issues such as:

    • Colds and other respiratory illnesses
    • Gastrointestinal and abdominal pain
    • Joint pain and minor orthopedic injuries
    • A wide range of other conditions
